J-CLIL ９月例会
The J-CLIL Tohoku research meeting featured presentations on two emerging issues in CLIL and English-medium education: multilingual approaches to knowledge mediation and the use of generative AI in CLIL material development.
Keith S. T. Tong, Visiting Chair Professor at National Pingtung University and former Director of the Center for Language Education at Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, presented “From Epistemic Closure to Openness: The 4T Lenses for Sustainable Knowledge Mediation in Sinology.” He introduced the 4T framework—Translanguaging, Trans-semiotising, Transknowledging, and Transculturing—and discussed how multilingual and multimodal approaches can support more inclusive forms of knowledge construction in higher education.
Barry Kavanagh of Tohoku Gakuin University presented “AI for CLIL Teachers: Creating Materials and Interactive Worksheets—No Coding Required.” The presentation demonstrated how generative AI can assist teachers in transforming conventional CLIL materials into interactive learning resources while highlighting the importance of pedagogical planning, factual verification, and effective prompt design.
