“CLIL lesson design to promote cognitive development and subject literacy acquisition”


This workshop aims to delve into the dynamic realm of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) with a specific focus on designing lessons that foster cognitive development and subject literacy acquisition. CLIL, a pedagogical approach that intertwines language and content learning, holds immense potential in nurturing not only language proficiency but also deep understanding of subject matter. Through this workshop, participants will embark on a journey to explore the intricacies of CLIL lesson design, leveraging its principles to unlock cognitive growth and literacy attainment in learners. The workshop will offer a brief look at CLIL fundamentals, delineating its principles in relation to CLIL lesson design. Participants will then design themself strategies for promoting subject literacy acquisition within CLIL environments, encompassing vocabulary enrichment, comprehension scaffolding, and language function integration tailored to subject domains, hence, promoting subject-specific literacies. Integral to the workshop is the practical application of CLIL principles in lesson design, therefore, through interactive discussions, collaborative tasks, and reflective exercises, participants will emerge equipped with a robust understanding of CLIL's potential in promoting cognitive development and subject literacy acquisition.
